|
The 20th century was a time of upheaval interspersed with antagonism and hostility. In the field of psychoanalysis, pains were taken to secure it’s survival and identity right in the heart of the times when enthusiasm for Marxism was aroused. Freud and Marx greatly transfigured the cognition of the European people who attempted to live in peace while holding on to their traditional value system. Although the main body of revolutionary changes in the 20th century were Freud and Marx, it is true that they are incompatible in some aspects. Some idealistic thinkers were fascinated by all of Freud and Marx, and tried to graft both together, while some realistic thinkers criticized such ill-advised attempts to graft them together as a wooden-iron of impossible coexistence. Is Freudo-Marxism a wooden-iron? Can it be so? Nobody knows whether it is true or not, because Freudo-Marxism was intellectual play in the dimension of ideology without possible realization. Furthermore, the ideals of Marx ended in miserable failure, and the possibility of realizing ideological grafting has in effect disappeared. Marxists adhere to outside conditions and contradiction, but they overlook internal conflict and desire, while Freudians pay attention to inner conflict and contradiction. The main reason for the fall of Marxism was the disregard for personal psychology. Is Freudo-Marxism anachronistic? It would seem to be so. Nevertheless, the reason why we are concerned with Freudo-Marxism is the unavoidable reality that in the near future we must overcome the heterogeneity and estrangement induced by the artificial division of our country based on ideology. I believe that proper understanding brings about harmony, but misunderstanding give rise to disharmony.
